Speak Up! Why Elocution Matters

At CHHS, we don’t just want our students to learn from books, instead we want them to express themselves clearly, confidently, and creatively. Elocution helps them tap into their potential and refine the way they communicate.
Whether it’s standing on stage during a competition or speaking up in class, the ability to express your thoughts with clarity is incredibly useful and a tool they will take forward throughout their lives.
1. It builds real confidence
Public speaking is scary, but only until it isn’t. The best way to get over the fear is by doing it, in fact there are enough adults as well who struggle with public speaking. Elocution gives students a safe, structured space to practice speaking aloud, face an audience, and remove the nerves they feel before they stand up to speak in front of a large group.
2. It sharpens thought
The idea is more than to simply speak, but to speak to an audience in a way that resonates with them; and to speak clearly, you must think clearly. Preparing for elocution helps students structure their ideas, choose their words carefully, and deliver messages with impact.
3. It improves pronunciation and vocabulary
From tongue twisters to poetry recitals, elocution practice helps students pronounce words correctly, to pause meaningfully, and expand their vocabulary in a natural way. It isn’t just about what you are saying, but also how you say it that matters.
4. It’s great prep for debates, and even for interviews
Whether you’re explaining a point in class or answering questions in a college interview, elocution lays the foundation for confident communication in the real world.
5. It celebrates individuality
Every CHHS student has something unique to say. Elocution is where we see personalities blossom, some serious, some funny, some poetic, it provides a stage for everyone.
